Advent Day 9

The 25 Days of Christmas
Day 9
(A Photo Story)

For the last 2 years our family has gone to a tree farm in Salisbury.  Two years ago we had a white pine and and last year we had a spruce pine.  I loved that are trees were unique, but Andy loves the smell of a Frasier Fur.  So last Christmas, knowing that this would be our first Christmas with Anderson, we decided as a family that we would head up to the mountains this year to pick out a good smelling Frasier fur for our first Christmas as a family of three.

So this morning after church we loaded into my parents' Suburban, picked up my sister (her husband was sick), and drove north to Joe Edwards Christmas Tree Farm in Sparta, NC.  On the way up, Dad came up with a simple game.  He felt like the radio stations only seemed to play the same 6 Christmas songs over and over again.  So he challenged us to come up with the names of 100 Christmas songs before we got back to Megan's house.  Around 75 the situation was looking bleak. Then we got stuck on 97.  We had come up with 99 before we pulled into the tree farm's driveway.  And just as we arrived I thought of Elvis Presley's "Santa Bring My Baby Back to Me." That's right folks, 100 Christmas songs off the top of our heads!

Anderson loved the wide open spaces of the tree farm.  He was already exhausted because he hadn't taken a nap after lunch, but he still couldn't resist running through the trees (sometimes a little out of control- the farm is on the side of a mountain).  He also enjoyed watching the workers drive the tractor and trailer around to pick up the trees and watching the workers cut down the trees with their chainsaws.  One tired baby and a slight damp chill in the air helped inspire all of us to find our trees quickly.  We were only about 5 minutes away for the tree farm when Anderson's eyes closed and his head began to droop.  Before we knew it both he and Andy were fast asleep.

It was a wonderful day.  And now to pull the Christmas decorations out of the attic and get this place looking Christmas-y.  It is definitely the MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR!
